Drawing the Sun Fun Festival®–A Celebration of Summer to a close, the Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival will take place on Labor Day weekend the evening of August 29 and all day August 30. The festival will feature family-friendly entertainment and events, including live music, the official barbeque competition of South Carolina, a classic car show, a kids’ area, boat rides on the lake, food and arts/craft vendors, a car giveaway, a new 5K Run/Walk and so much more!
The Official Barbeque cooking competition of South Carolina sponsored by the Omar Shrine Temple, will begin festivities on Friday with an Anything But Pork, Best Sauce, Best Dessert, and Best Booth/Showmanship contest. The event holds a prize purse totaling more than $20,000 combined for all judging categories. Festival attendees will have the opportunity to sample and purchase the mouth-watering food and barbeque after judging both Friday and Saturday.
Car enthusiasts can park themselves at Wheels at the Beach Car Show presented by Beach Bouncers. The show takes place Saturday afternoon and more than 200 antique and classic cars are expected.

Also on Saturday, you won’t want to miss contestants searching for the winning key to a new 2008 Ford Focus. Valued at more than $15,000, the Ford Fusion car was part of the summer long Sun Fun Festival. Contestants were chosen from both web site entries at SunFunFestival.com and by entering at different events throughout the summer. Last year, contestants dug through bales of hay trying to uncover the winning key.
The Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival also will feature children’s activities in the HUGE AT&T The Real Yellow Pages Kids Zone and free boat rides in the lake. While you’re here, take in a live entertainment both Friday and Saturday by Still Cruzin’ Beach Band who will take the stage Aug. 29, and Clay Brown and the Legend Band, The Flashbacks and many more appear live Aug. 30 presented by Withers Preserve and the Market Common. Blankets, lawn chairs, clapping, smiling and dancing are strongly encouraged!
As an official sponsor, the South Carolina Education Lottery will be conducting their Summer Promotion Grand Prize Event. Other sponsors for the 2008 festival include Piggly Wiggly, Carolina Ford Dealers Association, and Omar Shrine Temple.
All of these exciting events will take place at Grand Park across from the new Market Common on the former Air Force base. Bring your beach chair or blanket and a few friends and enjoy the last days of summer.
